Sourced Note
As we've discussed over the last few days, there has been growing confidence on the Texas side that they have made a strong push for Dominick McKinley. Texas has pushed graduation rates as a key selling point to Dominick's mom, and there's a belief among some that this pitch has resonated.
However, sources at and around OU have long been confident that the SOUL mission program and the OU staff's faith-first approach combined with the track record of Todd Bates and Brent Venables was enough to secure the lead position for the 5-star DL.
Over the course of a few conversations late yesterday, it sounds like OU has been able to drive these points home as well as countering the Texas narrative on the academic side. This has led to sustained confidence from OU about where things stand.
This is another recruitment that will no doubt go down to the wire, and Texas is far from out of it. As noted previously, while there have been statements from the McKinley family about moving the commit announcement up to September 1st there has not been an official move on that yet.
