Maliek Hawkins, brother of Oklahoma commit Michael Hawkins, is a top cornerback target for Jay Valai and the Sooners in the 2025 class. Maliek Hawkins is a 6’2” 180 pound cornerback for Frisco Emerson.
Hawkins described himself as a player saying, “As a player, I would describe myself as very aggressive especially when it comes to press man, and my tackling.”
He has multiple offers, however, he said the two schools reaching out the most are, “Definitely UT and OU.” Hawkins then said, “Indiana and Houston have been reaching out a lot lately too.”
Hawkins visited Oklahoma on July 26th and Texas on July 27th. He spoke to the Crimson Captain about both of those schools.
Oklahoma: “I have a really great relationship with Coach Valai, Lebby, and Coach BV. It’s a very familiar place I like how it’s family-oriented and the technique Coach Valai teaches.”
Texas: “UT is also a very familiar place to me and my family. I love how they work there, and the great facilities and technology. The cover 2 look they give and play seems that it would be great for me as well.”
Maliek Hawkins spoke about his Sooners under the Stars visit last month saying, “It was great I got to see my fellow classmates there like Rohon Kazadi and Zadian Gentry it was a cool experience with the food and overall the whole event.”
With his brother, Michael Hawkins, committed to Oklahoma just how much of an effect does that have on his recruitment? Maliek Hawkins discussed how that affects his recruitment saying, “I can say that it does or doesn’t because I feel that they show love just off the the strength and me as a player. but Mike being committed there does face some attention towards me.”
When asked about gameday visits this fall, Hawkins said he plans on visiting the following schools, “Ole Miss for sure, maybe Houston, OU or UT as well.”
Hawkins spoke about the factors that will play into his decision saying, “The biggest factors which will dictate my decision is how I fit on the defense and how I connect with not only my position coach but the whole coaching staff. The NIL amount is a big thing but it is definitely not my main worry.”
Hawkins will begin his Junior season for Frisco Emerson this Friday agasisnt Hillcrest. Oklahoma will continue recruiting him hard and will look to beat out Texas, Houston, and more to land the services of 2025 CB Maliek Hawkins.
