In our Staff Rumors post from early this morning, I added this note:

The general feeling is that hiring from within still remains the most likely option for Venables at this point. One reason that sources on the OU end have been expecting Emmett Jones to be named co-OC goes back to discussions between Jones and Venables when Jones was hired about the succession plan in the scenario where Jeff Lebby left the program. The exact details of those discussions aren't known, but there's a sense that if Jones is not elevated during this process it could prompt him to be more open to opportunities outside Norman.

It's been reported by other outlets that there was momentum for Joe Jon Finley to be named co-OC with Seth Littrell, and in talking with our sources this morning it's sounding like that's indeed the case.

Two different sources we spoke with on the matter reiterated that should the Finley/Littrell duo be promoted Jones would most likely start to seriously pursue head coaching jobs at the G5 level or a P5 job where there's a better path to the OC role.
