We have heard a lot this cycle about how recruits haven't informed staffs about a decision and how that's an indication of some sort that said recruit is torn about their destination.
From talking to some well-connected friends of mine and comparing notes, I just don't see that being true, especially in this cycle. It's becoming more common than not that a recruit will make arrangements behind the scenes, come to a decision well in advance of an announcement, and only inform the school they're choosing. If anything, the norm these days is that if you haven't heard it's you, then it's definitely not.
There are certainly exceptions to this rule, but those exceptions are almost always accompanied by other indications that shed light on what's real and what isn't.
In the age of aggregators, social media, and crystal balls, recruits are becoming much more media savvy, and often the media members who are closest to a staff or an individual recruit are most likely to get used or misled about where things stand in their recruitment if that media person isn't willing to entertain the idea that they're not getting the full story.
These are all things I'll take into account in my reporting. It won't change what I report, but it will affect the overall tone and the conclusions that I draw from different pieces of information that come in.
