Where Sooners OKPreps targets are playing in Week One

High school football is underway in Oklahoma, with week one starting on Thursday, August 31st, with a top matchup of Oklahoma commits in Jaden Nickens and Andy Bass going head-to-head. Week zero is over as the Bixby Spartans let the state know they still run 6A-1 with a 42-16 win over Owasso. Edmond Santa Fe also sent a message, pulling off the 27-26 upset over Jenks. Each week, I will be putting out an article like this one showcasing when and where all of the Sooners' OKPreps targets are playing each week. Each week, a new article will be published with an updated list of games, including the previous week's stats, if they are made available. As the Oklahoma coaching staff continues to extend their interest to more OKPreps stars as the season progresses, more people will be added to this list.

Thursday, August 31st:

Booker T. Washington at Del City - 6 pm

LaDainian Fields, 6'0, 170 pounds, is a three-star ATH in the '24 class currently committed to TCU out of Del City. Although he is a TCU commit, the Sooners continue to show interest in the Del City product.

Millwood at Heritage Hall - 7 pm

CJ Turnbull, 6'1, 170 pounds, is a quarterback in the '26 class out of Millwood. Turnbull attended the Brent Venables Football Camp in June. He also visited in July for the "Sooners Under The Stars" event for underclassmen. Turnbull could very well be the Sooners' quarterback in the '26 class. This season, the Turnbull to Nickens connection will be one of the best in the state.

Jaden Nickens, 6'3, 190 pounds, is a four-star wide receiver in the '25 class out of Millwood. Nickens committed to Oklahoma on August 12th over Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Arkansas, and Texas A&M. Nickens is the 122nd-ranked overall prospect, 20th-ranked wide receiver, and the third-ranked player in Oklahoma per the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.

Andy Bass, 5'11, 200 pounds, is a three-star ATH in the '24 class out of Heritage Hall. Bass plays quarterback for the Chargers, leading them to a 3A State Championship victory a season ago. In the championship game against Metro Christian, Bass threw for 108 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 256 yards (7.8 yards per carry) with two additional touchdowns. In the pre-season scrimmages at Carl Albert, Bass went 70 yards down the field in three plays in the half-game against Tuttle, with 32 yards passing and 48 yards on the ground, including a touchdown.

Casady at Christian Heritage - 7 pm

Ace Hodges, 6'2, 270 pounds, is a defensive tackle in the '24 class from Casady. Hodges committed to the Sooners (PWO) on June 9th, shortly after attending the Brent Venables Football Camp. The PWO defensive tackle is also a nationally qualified wrestler. He is also the top center in Oklahoma. Like other top OKPreps defensive linemen, Hodges trains with Christian "Chief" Littlehead. Hodges also trains with Marcus Pugh for speed and former Sooner offensive lineman J.R. Conrad for offensive line training. Hodges played 130 snaps, recorded 6.5 tackles, two TFLs, and batted down two passes in the 24-17 win over Community Christian. Ace Hodges will visit Oklahoma this weekend as the Sooners take on Arkansas State.

Piedmont at El Reno - 7 pm

Cannon Wood, 6-1, 215 pounds, is an ATH in the '24 class out of Piedmont. Wood plays linebacker and running back for the Wildcats. In week zero, Wood rushed for 114 yards with four touchdowns, made 12 tackles, and forced a fumble. Wood has visited the Sooners six times and could be a PWO option in the future.

Bethany at John Marshall - 7 pm

Evenson Malaska, 5'10, 160 pounds, is a cornerback in the '26 class out of Bethany. Malaska received an offer at the Brent Venables Football Camp from Jay Valai and Brandon Hall. He also attended the "Sooners Under The Stars" on July 26th. Malaska and Bethany look to bounce back against John Marshall following the 26-14 loss to Jones in week zero.

Friday, September 1st:

Wagoner at Coweta - 7 pm

Alex Shieldnight, 6'3, 220 pounds, is a three-star (On3) edge in the '25 class out of Wagoner. Shieldnight attended the "Sooners Under The Stars" on July 26th. In the only Hudl highlight of Shieldnight I could find, he took a tight end screen for a 10+ yard gain against Claremore.

Broken Arrow at Union - 7 pm

Devon Jordan is a 5'11, 168-pound, four-star cornerback in the '24 class at Union. Jordan recently dropped his top five in which Oklahoma made the cut alongside Alabama, TCU, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State. Against Westmoore in week zero, Jordan shut down his side of the field, made four tackles, and forced a fumble against Sooners commit Mykel Patterson-McDonald. According to Titan Sports, Jordan also recorded the top speed in the state in week zero (21.31 mph).

Yukon at Westmoore - 7 pm

Mykel Patterson-McDonald, 5'11, 180 pounds, committed to the Sooners on July 31st. The '24 three-star safety recorded 100 tackles, 56 solo, forced two fumbles, caused ten pass breakups, and intercepted three passes last season at Westmoore. Patterson-McDonald and the Jaguars look to win their first game of the 2023 season at home against Yukon.

Jenks at Owasso - 7 pm

Kaydin Jones, 6'0, 170 pounds, is the son of former Sooner running back Kejuan Jones. The '26 running back moved to Jenks this summer to play for the same high school his dad did, Jenks, over twenty years ago. Kaydin Jones recently made it down to Norman for a visit for "Sooners Under The Stars." Jones told the Crimson Captain about the visit, "It was great. I really love the program. Coach Murray, he's kind of like Coach Gaylor; he makes you want to play football for him. Coach Murray is credible; he knows what he is talking about. He's been at the next level before; he was a top back in the league. Why would you not want to play for someone who has made it to where you want to make it to?" In the week zero 27-26 loss against Edmond Santa Fe, Jones rushed for 117 yards and caught passes six for 83 yards and a touchdown. Jones also returned a kick for 41 yards.

Ryker Haff is a 6'6, 305-pound, three-star offensive tackle in the '25 class from Owasso. Haff attended the Brent Venables Football Camp this summer and is followed by a few of the Oklahoma coaches on Twitter. He holds six Division 1 offers from Texas Tech, Tulsa, Oklahoma State, UNLV, Houston, and UTSA.

Reece Satterwhite is a 6'3, 250-pound defensive end in the '25 class from Owasso. Satterwhite attended the Brent Venables Football Camp alongside his Rams teammates, and he trains with defensive line coach Christian "Chief" Littlehead, who trains OKPreps top defensive line products, including David Stone Jr. and Danny Okoye. Owasso and Jenks both look to avoid a (0-2) start to the season this week.

Springdale Har-Ber at Bixby - 7 pm

Brody Duffel is a 6'4, 250-pound, three-star offensive tackle in the '24 class from Bixby. Duffel visited Oklahoma last season against Kansas State and could end up with a spot on the Sooners as a PWO. He currently holds 14 Division 1 offers.

Carl Albert at Midwest City - 7 pm

Xavier Robinson, 6'2, 220 pounds, committed to the Sooners on June 27th. The '24 three-star running back at Carl Albert, a school well-known for its notorious running backs, Robinson stands out from the past greats- the first and only 2,000-yard rusher in a single season. Robinson's dominant and historic season for the Titans led to the Titans hoisting the Gold Ball Trophy for the 17th time in school history. Last season, Robinson rushed for 2,598 yards and 39 touchdowns. Robinson opened his senior season with a four-touchdown performance in the 38-10 win over Coweta.

Kevin Sperry, 6'0, 200-pounds, was the first commit of the Sooners '25 class. Carl Albert's four-star quarterback could be OKPreps' first five-star quarterback as the rankings continue to be updated. Last season at Prosper Rock Hill, Sperry threw for 1,527 yards and nine touchdowns. Sperry rushed for 657 yards with seven touchdowns to earn Texas District 5 6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year. Sperry will take OKPreps 5A football by storm as he looks to lead Carl Albert to their 18th Gold Ball Trophy. In the highlights Kevin Sperry posted from week zero, he had a few good carries on read-option plays. He also connected on a play-action deep ball with Trynae Washington to put the Titans in the red zone.

Trystan Haynes is a 6'2, 175-pound cornerback in the class of '25 from Carl Albert. The four-star cornerback is the fourth-ranked player in Oklahoma. Haynes has visited the Sooners numerous times alongside his fellow Carl Albert teammates. He holds 14 Division 1 offers, including the Sooners and Alabama. Haynes returned a kickoff for a score and caught seven passes for 73 yards, according to his Hudl highlights from week zero against Coweta.

Trynae Washington is a 6'3, 205-pound ATH in the class of '25 from Carl Albert. Washington recently visited Oklahoma for "Sooners Under The Stars" alongside his Carl Albert teammates. Marcus James is a 6'4, 210-pound, three-star (On3) linebacker in the '25 class from Carl Albert. Last season, James played at Bishop McGuinness; this season, he will be playing for the Irish's rival, Carl Albert. Like his Carl Albert Titans teammates, James was in Norman for "Sooners Under The Stars." James currently holds 13 Division 1 offers. Marcus James looked impressive in his Hudl highlights from week zero, running across the field to make a tackle in the first clip and shedding blocks to stuff the run at the line scrimmage in the other clips.

Sequoyah at Checotah - 7 pm

Elijah Thomas, 6'1, 185 pounds, committed to the Sooners on July 27th. The four-star wide receiver in the '25 class from Checotah is the fifth-ranked player in Oklahoma. The '25 four-star, 2nd-ranked tight end in the country has been running routes with Sooners' commits Kevin Sperry and Elijah Thomas this summer. The Washington star caught 33 passes for 705 yards and 11 touchdowns as the Warriors won the Gold Ball Trophy in 2A. This week, Ole Miss extended an offer to the Warriors' star tight end.

Choctaw at Edmond Santa Fe - 7 pm

Bergin Kyser, 6'4, 230 pounds, committed to the Sooners as a PWO on August 2nd. The '24 three-star defensive end (On3) decided to walk on despite having seven Division 1 offers, including from Oklahoma State and Tulsa. Kyser turned down scholarship offers to play for Sooners' defensive end coach, Miguel Chavis. Bergin Kysar led Edmond Santa Fe in tackles in their week zero upset at Jenks with nine tackles (eight solo), one sack, a pass deflection, and the game-winning field goal block.

Joshua Aisosa, 6'5, 300 pounds, Edmond Santa Fe, committed to the Sooners on August 5th. The '24 three-star offensive lineman can play anywhere on the offensive line, inside or outside, and is very athletic for his size. Aisosa told Brody Lusk of the Crimson Captain, "Coach B, in specific, is an amazing person once you get to meet him, and he’s also known for being one of the best coaches at putting OL in the NFL."

Metro Christian at NOAH - 7 pm

Danny Okoye, 6'5, 240 pounds, is a four-star EDGE and top-10 player at his position in the '24 class. I talked with Danny a few weeks ago about his visit to Norman for "Party At The Palace," “Party at the Palace was great, talking to Coach Bates, Coach Chavis, and Coach Roof; it was great to be back in that family atmosphere.” Okoye continued saying, “The coaches treat each other like brothers; being able to witness that as a recruit is a real blessing.” Okoye made 43 tackles, 16 TFLs, six sacks, recorded one interception, and one forced fumble in his junior season. Danny Okoye dominated all facets of the game on offense, defense, and special teams in the 62-36 loss to Kiefer.
